YOU, YOUNGSTERS
In today's economy, you do not stand any chance of living as old as your parents or grandparents because that economy is kept going with the macroeconomic practice of sustaining growth in its development. That growth means more production. What is produced and sold is bought and consumed. So, to sustain the growth in the development of the free-market economy, billions of people must continue to consume more of the planet's limited resources.
You know this is not possible because your pocket money is running out because it is limited. So does the planet's supplies, which are depleted and running out, as evidenced by the continued occurrence of the Earth Overshoot Day earlier in the year; the day when humanity has consumed as much of the planet's resources as the planet can reproduce in a whole year. Moreover, all the methods and techniques of maintaining growth have disturbed equilibria in the dynamic processes of Nature. It is busy restoring harmony by eliminating disturbing elements. Nature continues to do this until there are no longer enough people to unbalance balances in Nature or until humanity lives in harmony with Nature.
It is no longer possible to keep the economy going with the macroeconomic principle: maintain growth in the development of the economy.
That principle can be replaced with: preserve the integrity of Nature.
The only person who can effectively and efficiently maintain this perfect state of Nature is the consumer, because he can spend his money on products that leave the environment unharmed. Pay the consumer to spend his money on these kinds of products and he will do this consciously, not only out of financial interest but also out of self-interest. Living in harmony with Nature is good. Then the development of the economy will continue to progress within the green confines of Nature, because the consumer is paid for it.
Launching such an ethical market economy is not yet within your capabilities. In the mean time, you can express the wish for that economy to become a reality by improving the biodiversity in your municipality. (A separate post about this) Restoring biodiversity is like giving mouth to mouth breathing to revive Nature. When you put biodiverse vegetation everywhere, you arouse enough interest that an ethical market economy EmE is launched.
You can announce your next visit yourself: After having read this message and we ring your bell again, can you let us know whether we can combat ecological problems in your garden by planting biodiverse flora in it, so that we can live just as long as you?
